A Multi-Center Clinical Trial
In collaboration with the Montreal Heart Institute, researchers at the University of California San Francisco would like to welcome you to the ColCorona clinical trial. This trial includes taking a 30-day supply of colchicine/placebo 0.5 mg to potentially improve COVID-19 outcomes and prevent heart and lung complications in the setting of COVID-19. Read below for more info!
COVID-19 & COLCHICINE
A new coronavirus is responsible for causing coronavirus disease (COVID-19). While the majority of cases are mild, a certain number of people progress to severe disease with complications.
Adults who suffer major COVID-19 complications appear to present a major inflammatory storm (overreaction of immune system). Therefore, we hypothesize that targeting the inflammatory response (originating from the inflammasome) may reduce COVID-19-related complications in adults at risk or with evidence of an inflammatory storm.
The primary objective of the Col study is to determine whether short-term treatment with colchicine 0.5 mg reduces the rate of death and lung complications related to COVID-19. ColCorona will be a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study. Following signature of the informed consent form, 6000 subjects meeting all inclusion and no exclusion criteria will be enrolled.
COLCORONA CLINICAL TRIAL
We are conducting a clinical trial to determine whether a short-term treatment with a medication reduces the risk of death and lung complications related to COVID-19.
• Involves the daily intake of study medication or placebo
• Participation of 30 days
• Only 6 follow-up calls or video-visits are required during follow-up
• Ages 40 and older
• COVID-19 positive diagnosis
• Not hospitalized
***Forbidden to pregnant women who are breastfeeding or who do not use contraception***
Principal Investigator, Dr. Jean-Claude Tardiff, explains the potential benefits of using colchicine as treatment in the setting of COVID-19.
